Looking Back with Gratitude
For my last President’s message, I would like to thank everyone I served with on the Orange County Chapter Board of Directors, as well as all the wonderful people I have met through my involvement with CLCA. Those who give back to their profession and are willing to share their free time are truly a cut above.
It’s unusual to be able to talk with a competitor and openly compare stories, challenges, and even prices. It’s also unusual to ask for advice… or to recommend a fellow contractor for a job. This is what being part of a professional organization provides. When there’s no one else to turn to during a crisis, you can always call a fellow contractor in CLCA. I’ve often said that being self-employed can be a lonely job.
For those of you who are members but haven’t really gotten involved, I encourage you to do so. And for those who haven’t joined, or who have let their membership lapse, I say: get in the pool, the water is great.
Getting involved can be as simple as attending events and meeting new people. The Kickoff Mixer and Lunch & Learn meetings are always worth attending, and the bowling, golf, and baseball events offer great opportunities to connect with fellow green industry professionals. Reaching out to a current board member and offering to help on a committee is also very rewarding; I got my start by helping with the Golf Tournament and the Beautification Awards.
Thank you all for the great memories.
